Democrat Insider Kareem Ahmed Indicted on Manslaughter & Fraud

In yet another disturbing example of Democratic Party malfeasance, prominent Democrat insider Kareem Ahmed has been indicted in an Orange County, CA court for his role in a multimillion dollar scheme to defraud the workers compensation system as well as charges of involuntary manslaughter of a minor. Ahmed was named as the alleged ringleader of a group involving 14 other accomplices in a scheme which ran between 2009-2013.

In sealed court documents obtained by KPCC 89.3 public radio, Ahmed is accused in a 44-count indictment of having allegedly hired pharmacists to mass produce compounded trans-dermal cream which was then prescribed by a number of chiropractor and physician co-conspirators to their workers compensation patients. The indictment further alleged that Ahmed then conspired with the doctors to submit fraudulent workers compensation claims.

Kareem AhmedKareem Ahmed had become an influential donor and insider within Democrat circles in recent years, contributing more than a million dollars to President Obama’s re-election bid in 2012 as well as giving heavily to Democrat efforts in the Senate and House races. Ahmed was featured in a glowing Daily Kos article in 2012 titled The Super Rich With a Conscience in which he was lauded along with Bill Maher, Jeffrey Katzenberg, Amy Goldman and other Progressives for “contributing against their immediate class interests for reasons of ideals they hold.” The article goes on to commend Ahmed’s “real patriotism” and “real decency.”

According to KPCC, the indictment doesn’t provide much information on the involuntary manslaughter charge, other than naming him along with accomplices Andrew Jarminski, M.D. and pharmacist Michael Rudolph “did unlawfully and without malice kill Andrew G. (his full name withheld due to his age)…in the commission of a lawful act which might produce death,” adding that the acts were conducted, “in an unlawful manner and without due caution and circumspect.”

In response to the events Ladonna Hieber, Ahmed’s assistant at Landmark Medical Management, the Ontario, CA based company of which he is the CEO, emailed the following statement: “Kareem Ahmed and his staff are innocent of all charges that have been alleged.” She went on to add, “The charges are meritless and we expect full exoneration of any wrongdoing.”

In a 2012 interview with Talking Points Memo (TPM), Ahmed confided that he did not like competition, which could account for both his actions as well as his Democratic Party activism. “I like to have a private life. I don’t want people to copy my business model, which I have wasted millions on, with legal opinion letters, from whatever, perfecting it over years.” The bizarre interview continued, “I don’t want people to take it for free and start giving me competition.”

It was around this time that his political activity with the Democratic Party increased to the point of becoming a major player within the party. According to Open Secrets, he gave a total of $100,000 to the “Majority PAC,” a super PAC started by Harry Reid’s former Chief of Staff Susan McCue whose mission is to defend the Democratic Party majority in the Senate. It’s treasurer is also a former Reid staffer, Rebecca Lambe. The group raised over $37 million in the 2012 election cycle and counts George Soros and Steve Bing among its large donors. He gave a similar amount to “House Majority PAC,” a liberal super PAC designed to help the Democrats in their unsuccessful bid to overtake the GOP in the 2012 House elections. During the aforementioned interview with TPM, Ahmed called Democratic Party Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) his “best friend.” In addition, the Landmark Medical Management website also boasts of Ahmed’s numerous political donations, including the Gloria Steinem-founded “Feminist Majority Foundation” and his contributions to their gala 8th Annual Global Women’s Rights Award banquet.

Kareem Ahmed’s largest contribution of 2012, however, went to the effort to re-elect President Barack Obama in his race against Republican challenger Mitt Romney. Between February and March of 2012 he gave $1 million to “Priorities USA Action,” the Progressive super PAC founded by Obama White House aides Bill Burton and Sean Sweeny. Including Ahmed’s million, the super PAC raised more than $65 million during the election cycle, including the famous $1 million check presented by Bill Maher on-air during his HBO Show Real Time With Bill Maher.

Recent public opinion polls showing a resurgent Republican Party poised to make potentially historic electoral gains both in national and statehouse races, along with numerous scandals and a perception of incompetent leadership have already presented stiff obstacles to overcome in November for the Democratic Party. With the indictment of major donor and insider Kareem Ahmed on fraud and manslaughter charges, Democrats further reason cause for concern.
